Climate and Adaptation
Climate change is not a legend, it is real and this impact is even very real. In Cambodia, we found mainly farmers in rural communities. Their farming practices have been depending on stable weather and climate such as predictable rainfall time, local weather, water availability, temperature and so forth, but these are becoming no reliable anymore, farmers need to acquire new knowledge, skills, technology, resources to be able to adapt to climate change
CTO has been working on:
– Climate Change awareness raising and education
– Innovative and Adaptive farming technology transfer to farmers
– Adaptation training and strategy development for community people
Empowerment to Community People
and Their Democratic Civil Society Organizations
Community is the key to what we are doing. We believe that in order to bring about the lasting change either social and economy status, lies in the backblock of how community is functioning. CTO is working to help community to set up their community democratic civil society structure and system which is a farmer work or platform for community people to work cooperatively for mutuals benefits. Community benefit in an effective and sustainable way. Imagin, when we build a house without a structural system. Building a good community would be the same, we need to have a strong structural system.
CTO has been working with local rural communities to build:
– Water Reservoirs
– Irrigation canals
– Class rooms and School facility renovations
– School library constructions
– Drinking water production facility for rural communties
Social and economical infrastructure access
For rural communities
We provide acess to social and economic infrastructures such as water reservoirs, but also irrigation system, road, primary schools which is the key to lives improvement, well-being of the rural communities in Cambodia.
Strengthening farmer livelihood and economy
About 90% of the Cambodian population are farmers and their livelihood and economy totally depending on farming. However, in this integrated economy, farming alone is no longer relevant, farmers need to access to multiple skills beside farming such as: Innovative farming technology ; Commercial farming ; Farming capital mobilization ; Commercialization of the product ; Value added skill to their product ; Marketing their product ; Networking to protect their product price ; Adaptive farming to climate chaneg ; Promoting high economic value crops farming ; Promoting commercial livestock farming.
